Returning to the original concept of Light Mellow, this nove compilation project seamlessly blends genres like fusion, AOR, and city pop, effortlessly breaking down barriers between Japanese and Western listeners.
Curated and supervised by music writer Toshikazu Kanazawa, the "Light Mellow Wa-mono" compilation CD series—produced in collaboration with record labels—was launched in 2014 and played a key role in driving the resurgence of City Pop. A Pony Canyon edition was released as the compilation "Light Mellow~Dream." Since then, the series has grown significantly, featuring artists such as Miki Matsubara, Amii Ozaki, Char, Original Love, Parachute, and more, each receiving their own Light Mellow installments. Notably, Miki Matsubara’s original album also saw its first-ever CD reissue. The series has earned strong admiration thanks to its outstanding curation, deep expertise, and genuine passion for music.
With the rise of the City Pop boom, some previously out-of-print releases have been reissued, and new cassette tape releases have also become popular.
The latest compilation, arriving 11 years after the first Light Mellow release, focuses on fusion and Japanese-produced tracks, offering a fresh soundscape rich with the signature Light Mellow vibe.
