A long long time ago in Nagasaki a very different version of history took place....
Betrayed by those closest to him Raizou Kurima falls pray to a wicked trap and ends up with his future father in law's blood on his hands. This leads him to live with the unbearable guilt of his actions. He is saved by the Rebenji-Ya a group of men that say that can do or take care of anything. The Rebenji-Ya are actually a secret group of assassins called Revengers and distribute revenger on those not strong enough to do it themselves.

Teppa Murakami, a former pirate doctor who is loved by the townspeople.
Nio, the androgynous boy who combines innocence and cruelty.
Soji, a gambler who lives for the now and loves to drink and gamble.
Raizo is half-heartedly recruited and becomes a member of the assassin group.
Through there strange occupation a friendship is born between these five men who all have different backgrounds, beliefs, and moral codes.
Eventually, as they pursue the truth behind an incident in Nagasaki, they become embroiled in a great conspiracy...
